Our Philosophy

We believe each child is a gift from God, a special unique person valued for his/her own worth, who is growing and learning independently while interacting with the environment through play, a child’s “work”. We strive to foster an environment that is rich with opportunities for growth in a variety of activities and experiences.

The purpose of Covenant Presbyterian Children's Center is to provide a well-rounded program for the children enrolled and our surrounding community. Through our program, each child can grow and develop spiritually, cognitively, physically, emotionally, and socially within a Christian atmosphere.

About us

Covenant Presbyterian Children's Center offers care for children from six weeks to five years of age with hours from 7:15 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

Our Teacher-Child ratios allow for us to better understand and meet children’s needs. Our Teachers are well qualified with professional development through coursework in early childhood education and CPR/First Aid certified.

As a ministry of Covenant Presbyterian Church. We teach child-friendly Christian values in an environment welcoming of all faiths and denominations.

The Children’s Center Board of Directors has oversight of the Children’s Center and reports to the Session of the Church. Covenant Presbyterian Children's Center is administered by two full-time directors and is licensed by the State of Texas (HHSC/DFPS).

About the Directors

Jamilyn is a loving wife and mother to two beautiful children. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Science from Texas A&M University. Having served as a teacher, mentor and Director at CPCC, Jamilyn knows what it takes to provide the loving support families like yours need to thrive.

Heather is a loving wife and aunt to 12 children. She has a passion for early childhood education and loves working with children. Heather has found this line of work to be the most fulfilling.

Jamilyn and Heather first became a team in 2011 in the two-year-old classroom and then as Directors in 2018. They saw a need for a healthy work environment for early childhood educators and quality, affordable, Christian based early education in the Bryan-College Station community. They both strive to deliver the highest quality learning experience to all the children in care at CPCC.

Our programs

Our play-based lessons promote problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. We encourage social and emotional growth and promote the development of self-help skills, cooperation, and caring. Theme based lessons are implemented. We utilize a developmentally-appropriate and Christian-based approach to instruction based on units selected by the teacher and developmental goals for each age group. Active learning situations, in which children have opportunities to make choices and decisions, manipulate materials, use language in personally meaningful ways, and receive appropriate adult support and guidance is a fundamental part of our program. Teachers use a wide variety of resources to plan activities for the children.

Chapel

Our Elephant and Zebra classes attend a weekly chapel where children enjoy Christian fellowship through songs, contemporary Bible stories that reflect Christian values and prayer. We teach children basic Christian concepts, such as we are all part of God's family, that Jesus loves us, and that we should take good care of our world.

Bear Class

infants

We feel building a strong foundation is the key to a lifetime of successful learning and a healthy parent-teacher-child relationship. The baby Bears class provides a calm, nurturing, safe, and clean environment for our littlest friends.

Bear teachers foster a foundation of important life skills by: developing trust, forming healthy attachments, developing impulse control, and enhancing social interactions. Through playful baby songs, simple games, sign language, and rhythm-band instruments, little ones will be engaged through music, movement, and fun. Music plays an important role in shaping the brain and is critical to babies’ language development. Teachers foster a language-rich environment with a library of colorful board books and high-interest photo cards.

The teachers in the Bear room keep open communication with parents to ensure they are aware of their child's activities and development. Each parent is provided with a daily note detailing their child's day.

We feel blessed to be trusted with these children at such a young age and take special care to make sure we create the safest and most loving environment possible for them to grow and learn.

Hippo Class

toddlers

In the Hippo class, we believe in nurturing curiosity through exploration. Our goal is to foster essential growth, meet the needs of all learners, and embrace the joy of learning each day. Teachers immerse Hippos in a language-rich environment essential for developing both receptive and expressive language skills.

Teachers offer activities that support cause-and-effect relationships and problem solving to develop foundational skills for lifelong learning. Teachers plan fun physical challenges, action songs, and games that will build coordination, balance, and muscle strength. Hippos will develop both gross motor and fine motor skills as they squeeze, tear, roll, toss, catch, hug, hop, twist, run, and much more. Teachers place a special emphasis on social emotional development because learning best evolves through relationships and responsive care giving. Toddlers will build confidence, learn impulse control, and develop social skills while caregivers build trusting relationships with them through one-on-one, partner, and small-group interactions. According to Becky Bailey, PhD, “Self regulation is the key to school readiness and more powerful than IQ as a predictor of academic achievement.”

Monkey Class

The Monkey classroom is full of fun and learning. Our goal is to foster a learning environment where children feel safe and loved where they learn to engage appropriately with their classmates and practice social skills, such as using kind words and helpful hands. According to Becky Bailey, PhD, “Self regulation is the key to school readiness and more powerful than IQ as a predictor of academic achievement.”

In the Monkey class teachers focus on the children's increasing communication and motor skills. Teachers tailor activities to work on language acquisition, self-help skills, and social and emotional skills. Each week, teachers provide a range of activity choices that give monkeys plenty of opportunities to express creativity, solve child-sized problems, and develop curiosity. Each child receives one-on-one attention in addition to participating in group activities ensuring individualized learning as well as social development.
